Since its introduction in 2017, the Alberta Residential and Commercial Solar Program has primarily been funded by the revenues generated through the carbon levies. Unfortunately, with the United Conservative Party coming into power and repealing the carbon levy at the end of May 2019, the program has now been discontinued.
If you submitted your application and received an e-mail with Part 1 verification only, your application will most likely get rejected. The most recent update on the Energy Efficiency Alberta’s website states that “the program is now fully subscribed, and the budget has been allocated”. If you still have questions about the status of your application, we encourage you to contact Energy Efficiency Alberta directly at solar@efficiencyalberta.ca
Even though some of the municipalities are still offering solar incentives, such an abrupt ending to the subsidies can be devastating to the local solar industry (similar to what happened in Ontario). On behalf of our partners and customers, we will continue to advocate for solar energy, educating all the stakeholders, and helping you to install solar panels… one roof at a time! Thanks for your support and interest in solar energy!
