Alberta program to provide $55 million in energy efficiency subsidies

The Emission Reduction Alberta (ERA), formerly known as Energy Efficiency Alberta (EEA), has just announced a new funding opportunity for small- and medium- size industrial businesses looking to adopt new energy efficiency technologies.

If you own or operate a manufacturing, food processing, agricultural, retail, energy (oil and gas), waste management program, building management company, etc. you might be able to qualify for an up to $250,000 per project, to a maximum of $500,000 per business to install an on-site solar photovoltaic system or upgrade the following equipment:

  • Boilers, hot water tanks, furnaces, pipes
  • Fan and pump motors, including the installation of variable frequency drive units
  • Electronic building automation systems to control temperature, airflow
  • Lighting systems, addition of automation
  • Combined heat and power systems
  • Insulation/building envelope/air sealing.

The program is being sourced from the carbon price paid by Large Final Emitters (LFEs) in Alberta through the Technology Innovation and Emissions Reduction (TIER) fund and the Federal Low Carbon Economy Leadership fund.

Interested businesses are invited to submit their project applications starting January 2021, with the funding available on a first-come, first-served basis.
